Garry Reeder

Senior Advisor

Garry Reeder is the Founder and Managing Member of White Oak Advisors, a consultancy focused on the intersection of financial services and public policy. He also serves as a Senior Advisor at McKinsey & Company and on the Financial Innovation Advisory Board of the New York State Department of Financial Services.

Mr. Reeder has worked to advance competition and innovation in the financial system from key roles in both the private and public sectors. At the U.S. Treasury, he was a member of the original team charged with staffing the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and setting its strategic, operational, and policy priorities. In addition to serving as the CFPB’s Chief of Staff, he envisioned and helped develop the CFPB’s Project Catalyst program focused on fostering consumer-friendly innovation. He also served as the FDIC Deputy representing the CFPB and was a member of the Financial Stability Oversight Council (FSOC) Deputies Committee and Systemic Risk Committee. Before joining the CFPB, Garry was a member of the Treasury Department’s Auto Team, which managed the Troubled Asset Relief Program’s (TARP) auto investments including the $23 billion IPO of General Motors.

Mr. Reeder also served as Vice President for Innovation & Policy at the Financial Health Network. In addition to overseeing the nonprofit's public policy initiatives, he led the Financial Solutions Lab, a $60 million fintech accelerator program designed to cultivate, support, and scale innovative ideas that advance the financial health of low- to moderate-income (LMI) consumers and historically underserved communities.

Most recently he served as the CEO of the American Fintech Council -- the nation's largest fintech trade association.

His consulting experience includes leadership roles at Chain Bridge Partners, BlackRock, and Fenway Summer. He began his career in asset management at Sanford C. Bernstein and Ziff Brothers Investments.

Mr. Reeder holds a BA in History from Yale College and an MBA from Columbia Business School.
